The lawn of Merced College turned Red, White and Blue this
week in preparation of Veterans Day on Saturday, and in
commemoration of the fifth annual Field of Honor honoring
local veterans, active duty military members and first responders.
Veterans Day Parade — Merced will celebrate with a
parade on Main Street on Saturday, Nov. 11. An opening ceremony
honoring local veterans will be held at Bob Hart Square
at noon, and the parade starts at 1 p.m. A military aircraft
fly-over is also expected.
Veterans Memorial Bridge — A dedication ceremony for
Veterans Memorial Bridge in Merced will be held at 9 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 11 on the bridge at M Street and Bear Creek.
The bridge repair work was part of a $2.7 million project.
Three flagpoles were added to both sides of the structure.
Local veterans will raise U.S. flags over the bridge for
the first time as part of the ceremony.
• Atwater Celebration — The Veterans of Foreign
Wars (VFW) Post 9946 and the City of Atwater are co-sponsoring
a Veterans' Day celebration on Nov. 11 at Veterans Park
in Atwater. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and conclude
at 5 p.m. FREE food and entertainment provided.
• Vets Reunion —The Merced Elks Lodge will be
hosting a Veterans Reunion on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at the lodge at 1910 M Street in Merced. This
year’s event will be held in special honor for Vietnam
