AUTISTIC MOMENTS: Sierra loses her first tooth

Location:
Atwater, California

Sierra's world turned upside down on Friday as she entered a new, scary phase of uncertainty.

Exact times are really superficial for her, but it was after the sun came up, and she was well into her daily waking-up ritual when she felt something strange happening in her mouth.

Something wasnt' right ... and then ... something wasn't there. Something she had always felt ... something she had always depended on ... well ... it just wasn't there.

Her tooth.

Wiggling ... and sore ... and moving around freely in her mouth. She started to panic ... she started to cry ... she didn't understand what was going on.

Her grandmother came running. Oh how she wanted to tell her ... but she couldn't talk ... The only way she could express the pain she was feeling was to grab her grandmother's hand ... and guide it to where the pain was ... "Please make it better ... please make it come back ... it's not my fault ... why is this happening?"

HERE IS THE TRANSCRIPT OF SIERRA'S GRANDMOTHER'S 9-11 CALL TO SIERRA'S FATHER:

"Hey John, this is your mother ... you know Sierra ... you know ... she kept wanting to bite my finger ... so I looked in her mouth ... and she has lost her bottom tooth ... and she is crying and ... she doesn't know what happened ... and ... she knows a tooth is missing ... and ... I can't find the dumb tooth ... I think she swallowed it ... but ... but she's just really upset that she lost the tooth ... I don't know what she's thinking ... but ... she's crying ... and she keeps wanting to bite my finger ... and I mean really bite ... and I can't do that ... and I felt inside of her mouth ... and I can't find the tooth ... and I looked all over the rug ... and it's her bottom tooth ... but I'm sure she feels that with her tongue ... and it's scaring her ... and she is crying ... and I just ... hope you can stop over here ... just to talk to her ... just to see her ...  (sound of Sierra crying in the background can be heard) ... Stop ... Sierra ... Your daddy is going to come ... (more crying) ... all right ... good bye ..."

Daddy did come ... eventually ... and asked Sierra about her tooth ... she pushed her tongue in the new gap and looked away shyly.

She was all right with it now ...   Even let her old dad take a picture ...

Whatever, she thought ... how some things ... can get in the way ... OF A PERFECTLY GOOD DAY!
